Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Hoboken Aces clinics held?

All clinics will take place at the two (2) Battista Family Tennis Courts located next to the new University Center. You can see a map of our location here.

Can parents stay on court during class?

To create a focused and fun learning environment, parents are asked to watch from the viewing area above the courts. Kids stay more engaged and confident when they work directly with coaches.

Can I drop off my kid for the hour and come back when class is over?

No drop-offs! Due to Stevens policy for minors, a parent/guardian needs to stay by the courts during all clinics. There is beautiful viewing atop the courts and plenty of chairs to sit and relax while we are on court.

How do the 4-pack subscriptions work?

Purchase your 4-pack by selecting your first session and checking out. Once purchased, you will receive an email confirmation with a link to sign up for your remaining 3 classes. You can do this immediately or at your own convenience!

Do I need to fill anything out after I purchase a 4-pack?

Keep an eye out for a confirmation email containing a simple form requesting more information on your child's tennis experience. Please send back the form within 24 hours. This helps our coaches prepare for each session.

I already used up my 4-pack. Can I keep taking classes?

Yes. If you use up all 4 credits and want to continue, you can purchase 1 class at a time. Contact us for more details at arik@hobokenaces.com!

How many students are in each class?

There are 10 available spots per class. We will never have more than 5 kids on 1 court.

What is the coach to player ratio?

Minimum of a 5:1 player to coach ratio.

What do I need to bring?

A tennis racket (if your child has one), athletic gear, and a water bottle. If your child doesn't have a racket, let us know at arik@hobokenaces.com and we will provide recommendations.

What size tennis racket should my child use?

See USTA recommendations for age and racket size below. If you have questions or would like specific recommendations, reach out to our coaches in person or contact us at arik@hobokenaces.com.

Ball Type Age Range Recommended Racket Length
🟥 Red Ball 4–6 years 19"–21"
🟧 Orange Ball 7–9 years 23"–25"
🟨 Yellow Ball 10+ years 25"–26" or full-size (27")

What happens if it rains?

In the event of inclement weather, classes will be canceled. Pre-purchased classes will receive 100% refunds or 1 class credit - whichever you prefer. An email will be sent to all parents as soon as a decision is made. Read more about our weather policy here.

How do I sign my children up? Can we just show up?

Due to limited class size and popular demand, we do not accept walk-ons. To reserve a spot, purchase classes through our website or reach out to arik@hobokenaces.com to learn more.

Do you offer private lessons?

We offer a limited number of private lessons on Sundays only. Lessons are a premium add-on, not a replacement for clinics. We strongly encourage group learning for kids. Learn more here.

Do you offer discounts or package deals?

We do not offer discounts or special packages. We keep prices consistent for all families to reflect fixed costs like court rental, coaching, and insurance.

Is Hoboken Aces affiliated with Stevens?

No. All Hoboken Aces programming is run by Arik Zeevy, Head Women's Coach at Stevens who runs AZ Academy LLC.

Why do kids get to have all the fun?! Is there anywhere for parents to play?

Yes! Check out our adult tennis clinics at tennishoboken.com. We offer sessions four days a week. If you have any questions about adult clinics, reach out to Coach Steve Gachko at tennishoboken@gmail.com.
