Coaching Philosophy

We want your child leaving class feeling like they got the attention of a private lesson with the supportive environment of a group. We believe group learning with attention to detail is the best way for kids to have fun and improve fast. Too many camps and kids clinics are taught with 'cookie cutter' methods and are a result of having large numbers of kids on court with less experienced coaches. We are a boutique clinic run by experienced and passionate coaches, on beautiful, new college tennis courts.

This summer, we will be offering two different clinics. Red Ball (ages 4-6) and Yellow Ball (ages 7-11) are separated by age and are designed to teach the fundamentals of tennis. At this stage of a young tennis player's life, the priority is developing solid technical foundations that can be built upon.

UPDATE: we just opened up our Elite Aces High Performance group, which will meet from 2-3 pm between Sunday, July 13th-Sunday, August 17th!

Red Ball (ages 4-6)

Red Ball introduces kids to tennis using larger, pressure-less balls and fun games that build hand-eye coordination, footwork, and basic strokes. This class is a great way to start your child’s tennis journey in a positive, playful environment. Our goal is for your child to associate tennis with FUN and to introduce improved motor control and hand-eye coordination that tennis requires. Most importantly, your child should leave wanting to play more tennis! Learn more about the skills we learn in Red Ball here.

In Hoboken Aces yellow ball, we will use regular tennis balls and a full-size court. Our goal is for your child to learn the correct grips, learn proper technique on ground-strokes and volleys, and introduce the serve. Depending on experience and performance, we will introduce tactics and the mental side of tennis. Expect a mix of learning, movement, and point play. Our Story

Coach Arik

"In 2007, I showed up at Stevens as a college freshman thinking I'd go into a business or finance career. I never thought I would (1) be working in tennis, or (2) be working at my alma mater all these years later. Hoboken, just like Stevens, has become my home. I love coaching, I love this community, and couldn't be more excited to share Hoboken Aces with you."

Coach Tory

"Growing up in Union, NJ, tennis was more than just a sport in my family - it was a tradition, passed down long before I ever picked up a racket. Some of my earliest memories are of watching my older siblings compete, shaping the way I saw and played the game. Today, as I share this lifelong love with my two children, I'm honored to welcome yours to the court, and to our Stevens Tennis family."

Ace The Groundhog

For as long as we can remember, a family of groundhogs have made themselves at home on the grassy hills overlooking our Stevens Tennis Courts. Every morning, as they climb out of their homes to munch on a breakfast of grass, they peer through the wired fence at our Varsity teams.

It's hard to pinpoint when exactly we started calling our friendly neighbors 'Ace.' Today, that's all we know them as.

"What's up, Ace!"

"Morning, Ace!"

"Thanks for the support, Ace!"

No matter what we are going through, seeing Ace laying out in the sun or scurrying into his burrow always brings a smile to our face. Catching Ace peeking his head out of his house while warming up for a 6:30 am practice or hitting an extra basket of serves gives us a healthy dose of perspective. He keeps us grounded and reminds us that tennis is a game. As the inspiration and mascot for Hoboken Aces, he can't wait to welcome you and yours on court!

Aces in Action

As a parent, it’s been amazing to watch my 5-year-old grow more confident, active, and excited about tennis each week. Coach Tory brings such great energy, patience, and positivity—we honestly couldn’t ask for a better intro to sports. If you're thinking about signing your kid up, do it.

Priyanka, Hoboken parent

When I first met Arik, I had never picked up a racket. Three years later, I can’t imagine a better coach to have learned tennis with. Arik is patient, clear, and knows how to communicate with players of all levels, especially those just starting out. He also has a deep understanding of the mental side of the game. He intuitively knows when to challenge you and when to step back, offering steady, grounding advice that keeps you motivated and focused.

— Ally V., Hoboken Ace

Sasha had a blast with Arik. He was all smiles and is already asking when he can play again. Coach Arik made it fun and easy for him to fall in love with tennis.

Roman M., Hoboken parent

I've been learning tennis with Mr. Arik since I was a middle schooler. He is a great teacher at improving your techniques. He has a diverse set of methods to provide to his students; more over, he is a great listener! He truly receives your concerns and does his best to help you get through it, and with the great access of the Stevens tennis court, it is the best possible place to learn tennis around Hoboken! I truly appreciate his help!
